1 PREPARE YOUR HAIR
To prepare your hair for our organic colour treatment, follow these steps:
- Start by washing your hair twice with a clarifying shampoo to eliminate impurities, product buildup, and residues that could affect the colouring process.
- If you have been using silicone-based products, we suggest using our detox mask before shampooing to ensure thorough cleansing and remove stubborn buildup for even colour application.
- Avoid using conditioner before applying the organic colour, as conditioners can create a barrier on the hair shaft, potentially affecting the colour absorption.
2 COMBINE THE POWDER
To mix the powder effectively, combine it with hot water using three times the volume of water as the powder. Here are the recommended ratios for different hair lengths:
- For root-to-mid-length application, mix 100g of powder with 300g of water.
- For mid-length to full-length application, mix 150g of powder with 450g of water.
- For long hair and full-length application, mix 200g of powder with 600g of water.
Use a whisk to blend until the mixture resembles thick yogurt. To achieve the ideal result, we recommend using water a 50 degrees.
3 APPLY
Apply Rēcipe Botanica colour mix to damp, brushed hair using your hands or a colour brush. To enhance application, it is recommended to divide your hair into sections to ensure complete saturation. Ensure every strand is fully covered with the mud for the best colour results. If necessary, feel free to mix more product; a denser application provides superior outcomes with herbal colours.
4 RELAX
Cover your hair with a shower cap and unwind as the plants work their wonders. For our Dark Brown shade we recommend leaving the colour from 1h to 1h30. Feel free to try different timings and make adjustments accordingly. The longer the colour stays on your hair, the deeper and richer your hair colour will be. Since our dyes are completely chemical-free, you can keep them on all day for a more intense colour if you wish.
5 RINSE OFF
After the processing time, rinse your hair with warm water without shampooing. Then, apply conditioner and comb through it using a large comb or brush to remove any plant residues completely. Finally, style your hair using desired products.
6 WAIT FOR 48H
Allow 24 to 48 hours for the colour to develop its full hues. This waiting period will enhance the colour depth and fade any undesired greenish tones, unveiling a stunning shade. Refrain from shampooing your hair within this timeframe to let the colour set effectively.

ORANGE HAIR
For dark shades with significant grey hair, if some parts appear too orange after rinsing, towel dry your hair and go over the orange areas with our Blueberry shade mixture to counteract the unwanted warmth. Create a thick soup-like texture by mixing a small amount of our Blueberry shade powder with 50-degree water, then apply it to the undesired orange spots. Let it sit for 10 minutes before rinsing.
Once rinsed off if the hair is green, keep reading!
GREEN HAIR
For dark shades with a significant amount of grey hair, if some areas seem green after rinsing, don't worry! This indicates effective coverage of your grey hair. The green tint will fade within the next 24 to 48 hours, revealing a lovely brown hue. Don’t shampoo your hair during this period.

I did a lot of research (and was honestly pretty hesitant!) but I'm so happy with the product. It's subtle (not orange at all!) and feels great on my scalp too (which gets irritated with chemical dyes). I have maybe 10-15% greys (not really sure how to calculate this) with a lot of them on my temples (I was very worried about those becoming orange but they are nicely subtly blended with the rest of my hair now and the greys scattered throughout my hair are just like highlights now.
This is a before and after photo (before is on the left) of the where I have the most grey hairs. I really tried to take the photos in the same light at the same angle etc.

Wonderful natural colour, after 5 washes I can notice some slight red tone coming though which was mentioned on the product details. I wil try the caviar - soft black next time. Great product, highly recommend A++

I felt a positive difference in my hair straight after using the dark chocolate to dye my greys, it covered the greys but also made my hair feel healthier and smoother. I left it in for 2 hours, I was prepared for the ‘earthy’ smell as I had read the other reviews before using. Knowing the smell was quite strong prepared me which made it a lot better knowing beforehand. It reminded me a bit of the smell of ‘greens’ powder. For the last 10 minutes I used the Blueberry on the ends as my previously dyed hair had gone very orange/brassy, it covered the brass and made it look brown, it had a very slight green tinge which wasn’t vey noticeable and lifted after a few days. This is the first time I have ever used the product and found it a very positive experience.

The color came out purple on my greys, probably due to low porosity, but the customer service was great and I’m going to try sweet orange as a base first with rose mocha layered on top. I just wish there was a tutorial on how to achieve warm brown when you have to layer colors. Every layering process seems to involve neutralizing, and all of those beautiful red and golden tones disappear. But I can’t get around it since my greys won’t hold pigment otherwise.

I have a sensitive scalp and thinning hair. Just one application of this and true to its claims, my hair feels thicker and strong and shiny. Best of all, no irritation of my scalp. The colour is exactly as shown too. Love it.

I am so pleasantly surprised! Most hair colours I’ve ever tried at home throw a lot of red/brassy/copper tones, can irritate and stain my skin. I used the dark chocolate Recipe Botanica as a 1.5 hour application and the colour is fabulous. To think that I’m not applying any harsh chemicals and adding to overall toxic load is so reassuring.

I’m so happy with my results! The dark chocolate was recommended to me based on a few photos and details I sent the business through Instagram. I was hesitant at first, as I’ve never used a product like this, and hoped it would work as shown. The directions were easy to follow and I got great coverage by leaving the ‘mud’ on and covered for 2 hours. My hair feels healthier and I love the rich colour. I’m a couple weeks and several washes in now and I can say colour gets better with time as well. So happy to have found this product!

This hair product is surprisingly gentle on the hair. I am still experimenting with the colours but have noticed the colour blends with my colour and creates highlights with the natural colour variations in my hair. This gives a very natural look.

I have used many organic henna products before and this is the best one I have used. I have curly hair and it did not dry my hair out. Only thing I would say is that it didn't dye my white hair so i waited a week and dyed just the small number of white hair i could see. It still didn't dye 1 or 2 hairs.
