1 PREPARE YOUR HAIR
To prepare your hair for our organic colour treatment, follow these steps:
- Start by washing your hair twice with a clarifying shampoo to eliminate impurities, product buildup, and residues that could affect the colouring process.
- If you have been using silicone-based products, we suggest using our detox mask before shampooing to ensure thorough cleansing and remove stubborn buildup for even colour application.
- Avoid using conditioner before applying the organic colour, as conditioners can create a barrier on the hair shaft, potentially affecting the colour absorption.
2 COMBINE THE POWDER
To mix the powder effectively, combine it with hot water using three times the volume of water as the powder. Here are the recommended ratios for different hair lengths:
- For root-to-mid-length application, mix 100g of powder with 300g of water.
- For mid-length to full-length application, mix 150g of powder with 450g of water.
- For long hair and full-length application, mix 200g of powder with 600g of water.
Use a whisk to blend until the mixture resembles thick yogurt. To achieve the ideal result, we recommend using water a 50 degrees.
3 APPLY
Apply Rēcipe Botanica colour mix to damp, brushed hair using your hands or a colour brush. To enhance application, it is recommended to divide your hair into sections to ensure complete saturation. Ensure every strand is fully covered with the mud for the best colour results. If necessary, feel free to mix more product; a denser application provides superior outcomes with herbal colours.
4 RELAX
Cover your hair with a shower cap and unwind as the plants work their wonders. For our Light Brown shade we recommend leaving the colour from 45 minutes to 1h15. Feel free to try different timings and make adjustments accordingly. The longer the colour stays on your hair, the deeper and richer your hair colour will be. Since our dyes are completely chemical-free, you can keep them on all day for a more intense colour if you wish.
5 RINSE OFF
After the processing time, rinse your hair with warm water without shampooing. Then, apply conditioner and comb through it using a large comb or brush to remove any plant residues completely. Finally, style your hair using desired products.
6 WAIT FOR 48H
Allow 24 to 48 hours for the colour to develop its full hues. This waiting period will enhance the colour depth and fade any undesired greenish tones, unveiling a stunning shade. Refrain from shampooing your hair within this timeframe to let the colour set effectively.

For dark shades with significant grey hair, if some parts appear too orange after rinsing, towel dry your hair and go over the orange areas with our Blueberry shade mixture to counteract the unwanted warmth. Create a thick soup-like texture by mixing a small amount of our Blueberry shade powder with 50-degree water, then apply it to the undesired orange spots. Let it sit for 10 minutes before rinsing.
Once rinsed off if the hair is green, keep reading!
GREEN HAIR
For dark shades with a significant amount of grey hair, if some areas seem green after rinsing, don't worry! This indicates effective coverage of your grey hair. The green tint will fade within the next 24 to 48 hours, revealing a lovely brown hue. Don’t shampoo your hair during this peri

After I washed it out and my hair dried I noticed my roots were kind of bright apricot, so I applied Blueberry color to the roots only and left on for 15 minutes. I’m thrilled with the end result, after 48 hours its settled into a nice blended

This is my first experience with a natural hair colour and I am very impressed! I mixed Almond with a little bit of Blueberry to counteract the yellow and achieved a beautiful reach brown colour with some copper highlights where my greys were. The application was a bit messy but a small price to pay for the natural ingredients which colour and heal my hair. I am planning to try other colours to find the best match for me and excited to see how the health of my hair improves in the process. Thank you!

I’ve already used the almond colour twice and the result is fantastic! It’s covered my grays well and given me beautiful highlights. This colour mimics my colour from when I was younger perfectly, which makes me so happy as my colour dulled with the years.
And even as the colour fades, it still hides the harsh line from regrowth that I used to have (from the one time I used chemical coloring).
I absolutely recommend it and look forward to try the treatments as well!

Unfortunately it was too copper-ish/orange on the grey/white hairs compared to the colour on the rest of my hair and didn’t quite match the colour on the image. Great quality product though and got it fixed by using a much darker shade on top. Service chat was very helpful.

I was using henna for years as I thought it was my only option for plant-based colour.
Discovering Recipe Botanica was great because it gave me so many more colour options. Also it lasts much longer than henna and gives my hair such a great shine and softness that no other hair product has been able to do.

I’ve had such a positive experience with Almond hair colour. The colour leaves my hair feeling incredibly soft and healthy, and it covers my greys really well. On my roots it gives a lovely warm ginger/copper tone.
The customer service has been exceptional. Every question I had no matter how small, was answered promptly and so kindly. I especially appreciated the voice messages and the helpful video explaining how to freeze and thaw the colour. It made the whole process so easy.
I also love that there’s always a little skincare gift included with my order, which is such a thoughtful touch. For my hair, Almond was a little more orange than I expected, so I mixed in 10% Blueberry, which toned it down nicely. Next time I’ll probably try 20% Blueberry to get the shade I’m after.
Overall, I’m really happy with both the product and the wonderful customer service. I highly recommend giving it a try!

I just died my hair for the first time yesterday with a mix or chamomile, almond, and blueberry. I love the result! My grays got covered by 70% but I made the mix a bit too liquid. Will do roots touch up in a week with more thicker mix. My length got a nice cool brown color even with a warm base. I’m so happy I managed to get the cool brown color that I always wanted and even in a hair salon I couldn’t get it. I’ll definitely continue using this product and highly recommend it to everyone!

I love this product. It genuinely blends my grey hair so seamlessly, the colour is rich and flattering. So easy to apply and you really get value for money.

Generally nice but too coppery on my greys. At least it covers greys though. The instructions foresee this problem and recommend treating with another colour, blueberry, just on the parts that are too orange. Well, that only comes in 200g and costs another $80, making the exercise expensive.
Application was a bit messy and took a long time too, but I have long hair.
The other problem is that the mixture tends to dry out once applied especially in the little bits along my forehead, and it doesn’t work when dry so those parts didn’t take up the colour.
That said, I will use it again because I love that it deposits rather than bleaches.

I really liked the Almond colour, it gave me coverage of my greys, which are plenty, so I ended up with a lovely warm caramel colour which I love. Also impressed with the amount of time you leave on for, it says 45mins but I left on for an hour, excellent. Washed out, then shampooed the next day. It's not messy, so easy to mix. I have short hair so I only used a quarter of a packet, so its great value for money as well. Fantastic product. Feels great that I'm using a plant based product for my hair instead of all those terrible chemicals. Many thanks and Blessings xx
